Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated on the eighth day of Krishna Paksh of August or September with great devotion and enthusiasm. Hindus celebrate it by fasting and staying up until midnight, when Krishna janam (birth) is celebrated in temples and homes. People gather around in temples and swings and cradles Krishna's infancy statue. Throughout the day, people observe fast and eat farali (vrat) items. |
