Vegetable Lollipops with Beetroot Sweet Chilly Sauce

Vegetable Lollipops with Beetroot Sweet-Chilly Sauce

Preparation Time:  30 minutes

Cooking Time: 40 minutes

Serves: 4


To Make Lollipops

7 big boiled potatoes

1 1/2 cup par boiled vegetables (peas, carrots, cauliflower, french beans)

3 slices of bread/ 1 cup bread crumbs

6-7 finely chopped green chillies

1 teaspoon ginger paste

2 teaspoon lemon juice

1/2 cup sesame seeds


20-25 toothpicks or candy sticks

Oil for frying


To Make Beetroot Sweet-Chilly Sauce

1 cup grated beetroot

1 big red chilly

3 tablespoon sugar/jaggery

1 teaspoon lemon juice



To Make Beetroot Sweet-Chilly Sauce

Take red chilly and roast it on the gas stove or grill it in the microwave till it turns dark. Let is cool slightly. Remove the dark skin and seeds and make small pieces. You can add more chilly if you like it spicy. As this is for kids, I have put only 1 chilly.

Take beetroot, red chilly, add about 4 tablespoon of water and blend it in the mixture.

Take a pan. Add beetroot mix, 1 glass of water, jaggery, salt and cook it for about 5-7 minutes. Add lemon juice and let it simmer for 3-4 more minutes till it thickens.


To Make Vegetable Lollipops

Take a bowl. Peel the skin of boiled potatoes and mash it.

Add par boiled vegetables. You can have your choice of vegetables and can change the measurement as per your choice.

Take slices of bread. Sprinkle about 2 teaspoon of water and mash it with hands. Add to the mixture. Add salt, green chillies, ginger paste, lemon juice and mix it well.

Take 1 teaspoon of mixture, make a small ball and insert a toothpick. Prepare all the lollipops like these. Roll it into sesame seeds. Slightly press it with the hands.

Take a flat pan and heat oil. The level of the oil should be till the ball is dipped properly. Arrange the balls in the oil in such a way that the sticks remains on the top. Fry the lollipops by turning it occasionally so that it is done on all the sides. Take it out and put it on the paper napkin to remove excess oil.

Serve it hot with beetroot sweet chilly sauce.
