Peas-Urad Dal

Peas-Urad Dal

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 20-25 minutes

Serves: 3


2 cup urad dal/split black gram

1 cup peas

½ cup finely chopped green garlic

½ cup finely chopped tomatoes

½ cup finely chopped fenugreek leaves

1 teaspoon ginger paste

3-4 finely chopped green chillies

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

A pinch of asafoetida

2 dry red chillies




Soak urad dal for 2-3 hours. Drain water.

Take kadai/wok and heat oil. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies, green garlic and sauté it for about a minute. Add peas, fenugreek leaves, urad dal, salt, ginger paste, green chillies, 1 glass of water and cook it for about 10 minutes, or till it is cooked. Close the lid.  If there is need then add some more water.

Add tomatoes and cook it for about 4-5 minutes on a low flame.

Serve it hot with roti, parathas or rice.
