Moong Dal Halwa (Split yellow gram fudge)

Cooking Time: 50 minutes
Soaking Time: 4-5 hours
1 cup moong dal (split yellow gram)
1 cup ghee
1 cup sugar
1 ¾ cup milk
1 teaspoon cardamom powder
Few strands of saffron
Almonds/Pistachio for garnishing
Soak moong dal for 4-5 hours. Drain water and grind into paste. Add water if necessary.
Take a pan and heat ghee. Add moong dal paste and sauté it till it turns light brown. It will take 20-25 minutes.
Take another pan and add milk, sugar and half of saffron and boil it.
Add milk to moong dal and cook it till milk is soaked and ghee starts leaving on sides. Add cardamom powder, saffron and cook for 5 more minutes on low flame.
Garnish it with almonds, pistachios and serve it.
