Peas-Carrot Idlis

Serves: 4


3 cup idli batter

½ cup peas paste

½ cup carrot paste

3 teaspoon ginger paste

3 teaspoon green chillies paste

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon baking soda




Grind peas and carrots and make paste. Keep it aside.

Take a bowl, add salt, pepper, baking soda, green chillies and ginger paste in idli batter and mix it well. Make 3 parts of idli batter. Add peas paste in one part and carrot paste in other part and mix it well. Keep one part white.

Take a deep dish/thali and grease it with oil. Take idli steamer, fill ¼ with water and boil water. Pour orange batter in thali and spread it evenly. Put it in the steamer and steam it for 5 minutes. Take it out and pour white batter evenly on orange batter and again steam it for another 5 minutes. Take it out and pour green batter on top and spread it evenly. Steam it again for 8-10 minutes till it is done. To check if it is done, insert knife in between and if it comes out clean it is done.

If you do not have steamer you can use a big pan to steam it.

Take it out from steamer and let it cool completely. Take a knife and cut it into square pieces. Again cut diagonally to make it triangle.

Serve it with chutney or tomato ketch up.
